1 box Linear Feet (Rosae Liona Naugle (August 16, 1865 – August 11, 1962) was an 1882 graduate of the Lycoming County Normal School in Muncy, Pennsylvania. She was born in Nescopeck, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and her parents were John Nathan Naugle (1833-1925) and Hannah Birtley Naugle (died July 12, 1888). After graduating from Lycoming County Normal School, Rosae Naugle was a teacher until she married Charles Leroy Playfoot (August 27, 1859 – November 25, 1886) in December 1885. But after his sudden death from typhoid fever in Wellsboro in Tioga County, she returned to her profession and taught in public schools in Lycoming and Clearfield counties. Their son was Charles Leroy Playfoot, Jr. (1887-1972) who later moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania. In June 1892, she married George Henry Jaquish (1849-1922), a native of Tioga County, Pennsylvania, who had been an employee of Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation (CBC) since 1877. The Jaquishs had several children: Hannah Jaquish Strong of McKeesport; Ella Jaquish Seanor (June 13, 1895 – October 20, 1985) of Indiana who graduated from Indiana State Normal School in 1915 and was married to Beryl L. Seanor; Blanche Jaquish Yahn of Wellsboro; Nathan Naugle Jaquish of New Castle; and Martha Jaquish Stiles (September 10, 1900 – September 1, 1978) of Washington, Pennsylvania, who graduated from Indiana State Normal School in 1920 and married Edwin F. Stiles. All of their children attended Indiana State Normal School. In 1905, the town of Clymer in Indiana County was under development by Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation (CBC). George Henry Jaquish was transferred to Clymer on July 5, 1905, as the superintendent to direct the development of CBC interests. He bought 25 acres from the John Widdowson farm and brought his family to live there in 1906. George H. Jaquish worked for CBC for 45 years before his death on March 15, 1922. Rosae Jaquish later moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania, and lived with her daughter Ella Seanor. She remained active in her community as a Sabbath School teacher and she was a member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church for 38 years. The Mrs. Rosae Naugle Jaquish papers are housed in one archival box. These papers contain letters and notes of Mrs. Jaquish, cards, two tintypes and two autographed albums which date from 1865 to 1972. The two tin type photographs were made during her college years (1881-1882) and show her classmates, herself and a professor at Muncy Normal School. The collection was donated to the IUP Libraries on June 16, 1972 by her daughter Ella Jaquish Seanor (1895-1985) of Indiana, Pennsylvania, who was the first librarian at Graystone Presbyterian Church.)
