33 boxes Linear Feet (This collection contains meeting agendas, dockets, and meeting minutes from the ISNS Board of Trustees to the present IUP Council of Trustees. The Trustees of the Indiana State Normal School (ISNS) were charged with maintaining the requirements for Normal School status as set forth in the Normal School Act of 1857. The first President of the Board of Trustees was John Sutton, who served from 1871 until his death in 1877. Indiana State Normal School opened its doors on May 17, 1875. In 1903, the ISNS Board of Trustees approved the naming of four buildings on campus in honor of founders John Sutton, Silas M. Clark, A. W. Wilson, and Jane Leonard. ) : The collection contains original ledgers, photocopies, online transcripts, and electronic files of meeting minutes and information from the Board of Trustees for Indiana State Normal School (ISNS) from 1871 to 1927, Indiana State Teachers College (ISTC) from 1927 to 1959, Indiana State College (ISC) from 1959 to 1965, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) from 1966 to present. In 2010, the IUP Board of Trustees was renamed the IUP Council of Trustees. The collection also contains correspondence and information about campus buildings, construction, faculty, students, revenue, and expenses from 1871 to the present. The early Trustees materials date back to 1871 when the Pennsylvania General Assembly allocated money for the creation of a Normal School in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and funds were raised locally to construct the first building on campus, John Sutton Hall (originally called the main building), which was completed in 1874.
