5 boxes Linear Feet (This collection contains information about the Journalism and Public Relations Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). This collection was donated when the department became part of the Communications Media Department in 2021. The first journalism courses were taught in the English Department in 1959. The two main influential faculty involved in creating the department were Dr. J. David Truby and Dr. Craig Swauger. For more information, please see Manuscript Group 27: J. David Truby Collection. In 1973, English majors could get a concentration in Journalism. In the English Department, a Journalism major was started in 1977. After the creation of the IUP Journalism and Public Relations Department, it offered a BA in Journalism and Public Relations, and a Minor in Journalism and Public Relations. In 2020-2021, the IUP Journalism and Public Relations Department in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Building 404, included Dr. Michele Papakie (Chairwoman), Randy Jesick, Dr. Erick Lauber, Dr. Stanford Mukasa, and Dr. Laurie Miller.
