1 box Linear Feet (Edna Lee Sprowls (March 18, 1879-1958) was a professor in the English and Drama Department at Indiana State Normal School and later Indiana State Teachers College from 1915 to 1943. She was the daughter of Elymas Sprowls (1851-1916) and his wife Margaret Jane McCoy Sprowls (1849-1881). Edna Lee Sprowls and her siblings grew up in North Strabane, Washington County, Pennsylvania. She graduated from California State Normal School in 1898 and earned her Bachelor of Literary Interpretation from Emerson College in 1923. The dedication of Edna Lee Sprowls Hall took place during Homecoming Weekend on October 27, 1972. The building was built for the Department of Art and Art Education; and today Sprowls Hall is part of the College of Fine Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). This collections contains memorabilia that belonged to Edna Lee Sprowls including her diplomas and initiation into the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority at Indiana State Teachers College (ISTC). This collection was donated by Phyllis Morrow Sams (Class of 1977), Randy Jesick, and Michael Hood (Dean of the IUP College of Fine Arts). See Record Group 53 Box 39)
