The collection was organized by the IUP Libraries in the 1960s-1970s and used as an instructional aid for classes. It contains images of Pennsylvania history and historic sites related to: transportation, trains and trolleys; the State Capitol, Harrisburg; Gettysburg, Civil War Battle of Gettysburg; Western Pennsylvania, Colonial History; Valley Forge, American Revolution; Battle of Lake Erie, War of 1812; Oil Industry, Titusville; Philadelphia and Independence Hall; Johnstown Flood in 1889 and the Agnes Flood of 1972; Southern Pennsylvania including Caves, Canals, and Hershey; Old Economy Village, Canals, Pittsburgh, and Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh; Pennsylvania Ecology, sand, gravel, stone quarries, limestone, and coal mines; Pennsylvania Water Resources including fishing, Lake Erie, and Kinzua Dam; Pennsylvania Farming; Seneca Indians (Native Americans) in Pennsylvania; Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site; Pennsylvania Dutch Country; Railroad Lines and Trains in Pennsylvania; Covered Bridges; Pennsylvania German Folk Art; Amish and Mennonite Culture; Phoebe’s Wax Works in Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania; and Hopewell Village, Pennsylvania.)
