2 boxes Linear Feet (Louis Sutton was born in 1939, and he grew up in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. His parents were Eugene Robert Sutton (1911-2006) and Donnella Ruth Phillippi Sutton (1917-2014), both of whom graduated from Indiana State Teachers College (ISTC, later IUP). Eugene Sutton graduated from ISTC in 1934 and Donnella Ruth Phillippi graduated with her undergraduate degree in 1937 and Master of Education in 1964 (then Indiana State College). Both of Louis Sutton’s grandfathers were coal miners in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College with his BSED in 1960, Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962, and Doctor of Education from West Virginia University in 1968. Dr. Sutton was a Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education (now the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science) in the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) from September 1968 until January 1, 1999. During his 30-year tenure at IUP, Dr. Sutton taught physical education and coaching. In addition to being the Intramural Sports Director for five years, Dr. Sutton was the coach for the Track & Field team for 12 years and the Cross Country team for 20 years (for more information and access to scrapbooks about these teams, go to Record Group 62 IUP Athletics). This collection includes three series that include correspondence, diplomas, photographs, and scrapbooks, and yearbooks from Eugene Sutton, Donnella Ruth Phillippi Sutton, and their son Louis Sutton. )
