2 boxes Linear Feet (Albert J. Wahl (1909-1996) taught high school (1933-1946) and history at West Chester Teachers College (1946-1951) before joining the History Department at Indiana State Teachers College (IUP). He attended Lafayette College for his BS and earned his MS in 1933. After completing his Ed.D. at Temple University in 1951, Dr. Wahl was hired to fill in for Dr. Cordier in 1951-1952. Because of the resignation of Dorcas Hall, and his willingness to pick up her sociology courses as well as teach history, Dr. Wahl was able to remain at Indiana after Cordier’s return. His greatest interest lay in American social and intellectual history, especially the subgroup of Quakers known as the Progressive Friends, which was the subject of his doctoral dissertation. It was Wahl’s one-page proposal in 1966 that led to the creation of Indiana’s distinguished faculty awards. After 20 years, he retired from Indiana University of Pennsylvania as Emeritus Professor of History in 1971. After he retired, Dr. Wahl completed Jesse Hayes Holmes, 1864-1942: A Quaker’s Affirmation for Man (1979). For many years he served as the secretary of the Indiana Borough Police Commission. The Albert J. Wahl Papers are housed in two archival boxes. These papers include biographical manuscripts and publications, articles, text of speeches, and book reviews.)
