Sanderson (October 15, 1843-August 3, 1908) was a renowned businessman in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in a variety of business ventures, serving as President of several companies including the Williamsport National Bank from 1871 until his retirement in 1892. His parents were John James Sanderson (1818-1907) and Mercy Kelsey Crane Sanderson (1825-1900) of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. George L. Sanderson was the great-grandson of the American Revolutionary War scout Robert Covenhoven (December 7, 1755 – October 29, 1846) who was best known for singlehandedly delivering the evacuation message via horseback to all of the forts along the Susquehanna River in 1780. ) : The George L. Sanderson Collection is housed in four archival boxes. This collection includes a series of bound volumes containing the correspondence of Colonel George L. Sanderson, dating from 1871 to 1906.
