1 box Linear Feet (Dr. Carol Teti Kelly (June 10, 1942 – February 29, 2000) was the daughter of Joseph and Nina Marano Teti. She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. She served for four years on the music faculty of James Madison University, before coming to IUP. IUP appointed Dr. Teti as Research Associate in 1988-1989 and in the same year, presented her with the Distinguished Faculty Award for Creative Arts. She became a Professor of Music and Organ Performance at IUP, and she was the organist of Zion Lutheran Church in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Dr. Teti appeared in recital as organ soloist and in ensemble. She had performed at national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and of the American Guild of Organists. In 1993, Dr. Teti organized a committee of university, community, and local church representatives to build support for the organ studies program in the IUP Music Department. Dr. Teti was concerned, as were others, about the “vanishing organist” and the declining number of professionally trained organists locally, regionally, and nationally. In the effort to combat this trend, the committee’s primary focus is to raise scholarship money through fundraising events for students who wish to pursue the study of organ and church music at IUP. In 1995, an agreement was signed with the Foundation for IUP to establish an endowment for scholarships to support students studying organ performance at IUP. The committee typically sponsors two fund-raising events each year, and these have included recitals by nationally and internationally prominent organists and IUP organ alumni as well as biannual choral festivals. Since 2007 the committee has also held an annual competition for pre-college age organists. After Dr. Teti’s death in 2000, the committee was renamed the Carol Teti Memorial Organ Scholarship Committee in her memory. To date, the committee has awarded more than $30,000 to more than 35 students. The Carol Teti Memorial Organ Scholarship Committee Collection contains correspondence, by-laws, policies and procedures, meeting minutes, newsletters, and event programs.)
